The Latin Recording Academy announced today that the 6th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will take center stage on Thursday, Nov. 3, and for the second straight year will originate from Los Angeles' historic Shrine Auditorium. The show — which will feature performances from chart-topping Latin musicians — will be broadcast for the first time on the Univision Network from 8 – 11 p.m. (ET/PT). In addition to its U.S. broadcast, the 6th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast in approximately 100 countries worldwide.
The 6th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will feature 43 categories, including Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist. Nominations for the 6th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be announced on Aug. 23 at The Music Box @ Fonda in Hollywood.
"The Latin GRAMMYs recognizes musical excellence while spotlighting the very best in Latin music from around the world," said Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa. "With our new broadcast partner Univision, we look forward to giving music fans everywhere three hours of live performances they'll never see anywhere else but on a Latin GRAMMY stage."
As this country's No. 1 Spanish-language network, Univision consistently delivers record-breaking audiences for its specials. In the '04 – '05 season, Univision broadcast all of the top 30 entertainment specials among Hispanics of all ages, including the key demographics of adults 18 – 34 and 18 – 49. This season also increasingly saw the No. 1 Spanish-language network take its place in the "Big 4" network landscape. Univision was the No. 1 network in prime time among all adults 18 – 34, regardless of language, on 35 nights so far this season.
"We are thrilled to be working with The Latin Recording Academy," said Alina Falcon, executive vice president and operating manager, Univision Television Network. " We are especially excited that, for the first time, the Latin GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast live in the language and on the network Hispanic America prefers ."
Univision will handle production of the music celebration in conjunction with The Latin Recording Academy. John Cossette, recent executive producer of the Latin GRAMMY Awards and current co-executive producer of the GRAMMY telecasts, will serve as consulting producer.
