Q: How did you get started in lashes?
A: I took a job in Everett and met a girl who did lashes. She had taken the Lavish Lashes® training in California in 2005, when Lavish first got started.
Q: Why did you choose Lavish Lashes® to get your training?
A: I knew I wanted to go through Lavish from the beginning; however, I did call some of the other companies out of curiosity. A couple of the other companies didn’t even call me back. I think that is just horrible customer service.
Q: Why did you become a trainer and how did it come about?
A: Mary Jane Dana, co-founder of Lavish Lashes®, called me and asked if I would be interested in becoming a trainer and I thought yes, why not? I do like to teach people and lash extensions is such a good industry to be in right now. It’s exciting, it’s fun, and I want to teach other people that too.
Q: What is the lash industry like in your area right now?
A: It is taking off like wildfire. It’s been booming in the last few years. There are a lot of salons and lash bars popping up.
Q: Where are these stylists getting their training?
A: The higher-end salons have stylists trained by Lavish. When anyone asks me where to get training, I tell him or her to go through Lavish Lashes®.
Q: What percentage of your business is doing lashes?
A: 90 to 95%. It’s something that I enjoy and when it’s something you enjoy, it is attractive to you.
Q: After you’ve trained stylists, what’s the best piece of advice you can give them as they get started in lash extensions?
A: I tell them to relax and be patient. It will come over time, but they shouldn’t expect to go out there and be a rock star right away. If they are patient and don’t get overwhelmed, their business will grow.
Q: As a Trainer, do you find that most people take both the basic and advanced training class, or just the basic?
A: I’d say it’s half and half. For example, if the basic class has eight in it, four will stay for the advanced class.
Q: Do you feel it’s important for students to take the two-day course?
A: I feel it’s very important. It helps guarantee that they know what they’re doing and have the confidence to go out there and succeed.
Q: What kind of feedback do you get from people that take the second class?
A: 98% say they feel so much more comfortable after the second day. After the first day, they just feel overwhelmed; so much is thrown at them. Then, after the second day, they are so much more comfortable.
Q: Do you keep in touch with your students?
A: There have been a few, but I am so busy in my own shop it is hard to keep in contact.
Q: Do you have a favorite training memory?
A: My favorite memory would be from my Fresno, California class. Those girls were so cute and trendy and very patient from the beginning. They were little rock stars from the get-go. They just knew how to do it, even though they had never done it before. It was an easy, fun class.
Q: What’s the largest class you’ve taught?
A: Six. I like to teach six students, or less.
Q: What’s the best thing about being a Lavish Lashes® Trainer?
A: I like seeing people get started in their new careers and finding their niche. It is fun to see them grow and be excited about something new in their industry. When they first come in they are kind of scared, but after the two days they’re confident lash stylists, ready to go out there and do their own thing.
Q: Overall, what makes Lavish Lashes® so great?
A: From a customer standpoint, the customer service in the office is awesome. If you ever have a question, or a problem with a product, they help you out right away. They’re always there to help you. They also guarantee the product, so you always know you’re going to get the same thing. From day one I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Lavish. I just love Lavish. I’m so Lavish!
